On Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 5:50 AM, Los Angeles Firefighters responded in Automatic Aid to a reported brush fire just north of Porter Ranch. Though the fire was in Los Angeles County Fire Department jurisdiction, the Los Angeles Fire Department took command of the blaze due to high wildfire activity in the region.
At 9:00 AM, Los Angeles Firefighters declared the blaze 'contained' at no more than 20 acres. There have been no injuries. No structures were threatened or damaged by this blaze, and there were no formal evacuations.
The cause of the fire - which remained entirely outside the City of Los Angeles, is under investigation.
A pair of Los Angeles County Fire Department Brush Patrol units will remain at the scene today due to continuing high winds.
Local residents are encouraged to monitor local television and radio news for updates on this and other Southern California wildfires.
The map below represents the general vicinity of the fire and NOT the actual footprint or acreage.

Does the County fire department have a blog for real time info?
Anonymous 7:45,
We are not aware of such a site, but our friends at LA County Fire, who are in command of this fire north of Porter Ranch, do have an official website at:
http://www.fire.lacounty.gov
I hope this information helps.

We live in an area, hilly and brushy that can be affected by the Porter Ranch Fire. We're somewhat frustrated at the lack of information available. None of the TV stations are covering it, only one even mentioned it. None of the websites have any information, this was the only site that had any information at all. Are there other resources available for residents that can be affected? We live on Woolsey and have been evacuated twice in the last 4 years.
Thanks in Advance
Hi, I am in the Porter Ranch area and was just wondering what is the status of the fire at this time? Is it contained? I am down in the West Sesnon Area a couple miles from the mapped site and it is blowing hard here.
For real-time information, including word of any pending evcuations from a wildfire in the City of Los Angeles, it is always a good idea to keep an ear on local news radio stations.
The radio stations in Los Angeles that routinely broadcast *live* interviews with fire officials are AM980-KFWB and AM1070-KNX.
I'm on the air with them at the moment, and will return here to offer further information as soon as I can.

Thank You and great job to all those involved. On behalf of the PR community, we thank the LAFD's effort and success in containing this fire.
Mr. Humphrey,
I just heard you on KNX and you sounded very professional. Thank you for the information. I had no idea this site existed until I googled your name.
The Pattersons in Porter Ranch
Dear Mr. Humphrey,
Thank you for keeping all of us posted about the fire near Porter Ranch. This was the only site where I could find any information because the Malibu fire is a bigger concern.
To the firefighters,
Thank you for your devoted service in keeping all of us safe. Job well done and stay safe!
I am still noticing heavy smoke north of Porter Ranch. Did the brush fire start again?
Mr Humphrey, again thank you for the information. It's now 3pm and here on Woolsey we're being blanketed by smoke. Is there another fire in our area or could this be from the Castaic / Piru fire? We're almost ready to start packing.
thanks...
We also live in Granada Hills, just south of Sesnon. We can see a lot of dark smoke from our yard. Is this a new fire?
I live in the North East canyons of Simi Valley and we are covered with thick brown smoke, but haven't seen any coverage on the TV. Does anyone know if the Porter Ranch fire is still active and if it is moving into Simi?
I live in West Hills, just south of the Chatsworth Reservoir, and am noticing very heavy smoke in the air. Is this smoke from the Castaic fire or a new fire?
does anyone know what is going on with the porter ranch fire .I live in eastern simi and would like to know because the news will not say anything about it.
You can try the private LACountyfire.com for fire info.
You would have to register to access most things but it's kept pretty up to date about various large emergency situations happening throughout LA County. There's usually pretty good pictures too.
ABC just reported that the Castaic fire is sending thick smoke over the San Fernando Valley.
It's 5:30pm now and the news agencies have still ignored the Porter Ranch area so we still don't know what's going on, only guesses. We're assuming the smoke we see now is from the Santa Clarita area. I've called several news agencies and they're pretty much clueless. I can understand the frustrations that people have with news agencies now. They seem to be more concerned with being dramatic and visible on TV as they vie for cameo spots in movies. I was disgusted. This blog has been a better source of information. Kudos to the Firemen and Women.
I am burning up is there a fire around here... my cats are scared and should i evacuate?
...a truly exhausting day folks.
After 18 straight hours at the desk, It's time for me to get some shut eye. I will return here to answer your inquiries in the days ahead.
Stay Safe! -Brian-
I live in the Saugus/Valencia area. I heard something on tv about San Fransquito canyon rd. I am less than a mile from that road, but the road is long. Do you have any info about if it is near San Fransquito and Copper Hill in Valencia/
Currently? Regarding these fires? is ther any information on the percentage of containment?
Hi,
Do you have any updates, heard in news that the fire from stevenson ranch is moving towards simi valley. Do you have any information regarding this..? We stay in Porter Ranch..
Thanks for the good job you guys are doing of updating us...
Currently how far is the fire contained and which areas near have been evacuated?
I live in the Granada Hills area and I have to say that the distance from Porter Ranch scares me. We are covered in thick brown and slightly reddish smoke. Which areas have been evacuated? There is no current information on the stations. How far has the fire spread and how much has been contained?
