Take a Fire Engine, Add a Famous Comedian...

Periodically, we get asked about a beautiful 1941 American LaFrance seen tooling about Southern California.

Is it...? Was it...? Could it have been...?

Yes. It was; and now through the magic of the Internet, you can learn the amazing story of an American icon reborn. To watch a video about the amazing transformation, please visit:

That's a hell of a truck... how many miles per gallon will it do? 3 or less, I guess. If you own your own pipeline, go for it ;-)

Yes, heavy (and we do mean heavy) fire apparatus built nearly seven decades ago were not known for their fuel mileage.

While we have no reason to believe that the proud owner of that rig owns a fuel pipeline, he does have a remarkable fleet of vehicles that are maintained in pristine condition.

I know that the topic of this blog is a certain fire truck, but I wanted to mention that I once saw Jay Leno's comedy act in person. He mostly told stories about himself. The show was ninety minutes long, very funny and reasonably priced too! I have never laughed so much in my entire life.

Dear Anonymous,

Thanks for being sensitive to our quest to remain on topic. :)

Your comment is certainly within the scope of this post, and as such, we're pleased to share it.

Mr. Leno has been a phenomenal supporter of the Fire Service in general, and the Los Angeles Fire Department in particular.

In fact, he was humbly associated with a special LAFD project that has proven to be the most popular blog post we've ever offered.
