Hey, Brian. Thanks for the link - and the visit. Fascinating place. Hope I gave the public a sense of what really goes on there.

It would actually be interesting to sketch out your career. Did you start out as a line firefighter and how long were you there?

Calwatch,

I might just be the most uninteresting person on the planet.

To answer your question...

I am a Paramedic-trained Firefighter and will mark my 21st year at the LAFD next week. When you love what you do and especially who you work with, the time goes fast.

I have been a Fire Department spokesman for twelve years, and like my colleagues, serve purely at the pleasure of our Department Administration.

Hopefully the Chief remains happy with my work, as he has not yet reassigned me to scraping barnacles off the Fire Boats.

Then again, there's always tomorrow! :)

While I may seem prolific in the blogosphere, I am just one of three persons who staff the office, assuring 24x7x365 service.

Please Stay Safe and Be Well,

Brian Humphrey

Nice article. Exciting to get a glimpse of the data deluge there. I've noticed your useful links in del.icio.us.

Don't stop the great thoughts: "...a workaholic public servant whose energy and creativity is limited only by his crappy slice of the city budget." Sounds like you're enjoying it.

Hi there,

so we finally get to know a bit more about you :)

I keep pointing towards your blog as a best-case example of what can be done online nowadays. German FDs, I am afraid, have a long way to go.

I'd also be thankful if you would mind getting in touch with me (irakli (at) feuerwehr-weblog.de), since we'd like to run some articles in English.

Thanks and keep up the good work!
