LAFD & ADA 'Sound The Alert' Regarding Diabetes
The Los Angeles Fire Department joins the American Diabetes Association to 'Sound the Alert' for the more than six million Americans who have diabetes - but don't know it!
March 25, 2008 is the 20th Annual American Diabetes Alert Day
The men and women of the LAFD are proud to be a part of this effort, and ask you to join them in sharing the word and taking a quick and simple on-line test to determine your personal risk.
After all, you could be among the millions who are completely unaware they have diabetes - the fifth deadliest disease in the United States.
As Firefighters and Paramedics, we see instances daily - often hourly, where early recognition and treatment of diabetes could better the lives of Los Angeles residents. That's why we are proud to be a part of this once-yearly effort to educate people about diabetes risk factors and warning signs.
To help people better recognize their own risk, our friends at the American Diabetes Association have a simple, seven-question on-line Diabetes Risk Test:
A Diabetes Risk brochure and other information is also available by calling 1-800-DIABETES (1-800-342-2383).
With your help, we can make a difference in preventing and managing diabetes.
